The Glass House countdown to summer continues! We don’t know about you, but as we enter the last few days of blustery March, our thoughts are turning more and more toward sandy beaches and sun-kissed skin. We are TIRED OF BEING COLD!!!!!!
Our second summertime interview is with another new Glass House author, Nikki Vogel. She is most looking forward to summer because her two favorites sports, tennis and cycling, are much more fun to do outside! After an entire winter of spin class under the tutelage of Olympic gold medalist, Lori-Ann Meunzer, Nikki is ready for summer in order to hit the open road.
Nikki lives in Canada and knows the meaning of a cold, dark winter’s day. She grew up in sunny California and could do summer year-round, “no problemo.” But she does love the long daylight hours living in the north. “There’s nothing like sitting out on the deck until 10:30 at night with light in the sky,” she says fondly.
We have to think that’s even better if it’s WARM.
What is the THE event of this summer that you’re most looking forward to?
I’m looking forward to being outside as much as possible. Living this far north, the winter is very long and my favorite sports––tennis and cycling––are more fun outside.
Where do you live? Describe this winter in your area in three words.
Edmonton, Alberta. On, off, on.
What do you hope to accomplish in your writing over the long summer days?
Finish the edits on my novella and the first book in the series, and begin writing the second book.
What trend or catch-phrase are you going to start this summer?
Cycling as much as possible.
What is the BEST summer story from when you were a kid?
I don’t know if it’s the best story, but we used to play hide-and-seek outside all summer long, hour after hour, until the sun went down. It was so much fun.
What is the WORST summer story from when you were a kid?
One time I was at a friend’s house for a sleepover and we decided to do some toilet-papering. I got caught by the police. It scared the crap out of me. I thought they were going to take me to jail. My parents weren’t even mad, though, and they let me go back to the sleepover. So I guess this is a part bad, part good story.
Summer blockbuster you are most looking forward to watching and why:
The Dark Tower. I’m as excited for this one as I was when Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings started being released. I’ve read the Dark Tower series beginning to end at least three times, and Stephen King is one of the writers I admire most.
